a collection of top 5s
i spend a lot of time ruminating these days. most of these are not in any specific order, maybe.
top 5 songs i associate with fanvids:
i thought about this topic because i heard summer love on the radio at a restaurant and my head snapped up like oh it's the seth/ryan song.
1. summer love - justin timberlake (the oc, seth/ryan): i have never watched the oc but i watched every talitha78 vid regardless of interest. i have associated this song with adam brody's face for a decade now it seems.
2. mykonos - fleet foxes (the eagle, marcus/esca): another talitha78 classic. fleet foxes makes me think about this vid and also pensively driving through the blue ridge parkway.
3. white houses - vanessa carlton (merlin, gen): i cannot link to this fanvid because it was copyright stricken from youtube and otherwise uploaded to a defunct streaming website but luckily i was lj friends with the vidder, lj user lovestories, and a few years ago i realized it was still available for download. this merlin ensemble fanvid that had my friend and i in such a chokehold that i made her learn this song on piano.
4. new slang - the shins (friday night lights, jason/layla/tim): there was something i always loved about this fanvid, which i watched before i ever watched fnl. i always think about tim riggin's face crumpling when i hear hope it's right when you die, old and bony
5. bloodbuzz ohio - the national (breaking bad, walter white): i am thrilled i was able to find this on vimeo since the lj post only had defunct links. i genuinely think this is one of the best fanvideos i've ever seen, especially the instrumental at the end of the song with all of these tragedies and conflicts.
compiling this list really reminded me that i long for the livejournal era of vidding without excessive filters and voiceovers and lyrics randomly popping up on the screen. that being said ribs is going to be on my spotify wrapped this year solely because of this video.
top 5 dongkiz looks:
1. 200312 m countdown lupin: they all look incredible here but this is definitely one of jaechan's top five overall. i luv how expensive munik/jaechan/yoon look.
2. 190809 simply kpop blockbuster: the SUSPENDERS
3. 210421 show champion universe: these are pretty simple looks, but i think they all look pretty darling in purple and yoon's boyfriend cosplay is a+
4. 220414 m countdown cupid: i think they should always style mingyu in sweatbands and kyoungyoon in cropped jackets (my second favorite cupid stage is mcd 220428; both of these dates are birthdays in my family so i would like to think they did it for my mom and sister)
5. 200321 music core lupin: obsessed with jaechan's floral suit jacket and kyoungyoon's sexy butler look. if you're wondering my third favorite lupin stage is BOY DETECTIVES but sex appeal won out over hardy boys.
honorable mention: there is someone wearing something i hate in every single beautiful stage (tragic because otherwise it's jonghyeong's best styling era but someone is always detracting from him in the background) but i actually love how they styled the different floral patterns for 200920 inkigayo.

it's just the entire return album.........but no
1. love scenario: it's been four years and i am still happy to hear this song every time.
2. rubber band: a perfect laidback, plucky song with some of my favorite ikon choreography and hanbin lyricism
3. but you: i wanted to rank this #2 but i couldn't bring myself to because it only came out this year but this song is laced with something that is so satisfying every time i listen to it.
4. killing me: one of my favorite yg party choruses!!
5. my type: i know everyone was shocked by ikon's first two releases (and who wouldn't be after let it go dubstep remix??) but i always loved both my type and airplane. as you can tell my favorite ikon is chill ikon.
6. flower: a song that feels like being sad under a blanket while rain lightly hits your window.
7. freedom: did you know ikon invented the pop punk revival in 2018? junhoe is soooo whiny in this song but you know what? it's part of the genre
8. best friend: my favorite song about being friendzoned
9. just for you: a pretty standard "this song represents our love for fans" kind of ballad for a concert, but i find the lyrics really touching and even more so after hanbin left ;_;
10. what's wrong?: the second half of the chorus makes this song for me.

1. spark - ACE (light on me): what did they put in this song because it's still addictive to me....a nice mix of angsty vocals and an uptempo chorus.
2. the lucky one - 9x9 (great men academy): this song is 400 times better than the actual drama.
3. skyline - billkin (i told sunset about you): i love the chinese influence in this song (which they play up in the chinese version but i vastly prefer billkin's voice to pp's) and the Yearning
4. fake protagonist - getsunova (theory of love): speaking of yearning
5. free fall - slot machine (kinnporsche): i sincerely appreciate that not only is the english version good but the lyrics are told from a different pov... dedication. this song always makes me wish there was more mafia action in kp because this is a great hype song.
honorable mention: stuck on you - max jenmana (2gether): i know this isn't a nostalgia pick because i only like sarawatine in my own fic...this song is just kinda sweet and pleasant on the ears in a way i always come back to.

1. 150503 inkigayo cupid: starting right at the beginning, they look so bright and fresh in these varsity jackets.
2. 160423 music core liar liar: liar liar had perfect styling from start to finish. the boots styled as roller skates...genius.
3. 180913 mcountdown remember me: this may be a controversial pick but there is something i sincerely love about these kind of homemade-esque 80s outfits.
4. 180113 music core secret garden: fairydols!!! i love the rich blue velvet and the CAPES.
5. 151008 mcountdown closer: look it's a plain white outfit and plain white sneakers but somehow it's a perfect mix of dainty and simple.
honorable mention - 210109 gda nonstop: i don't love all of these looks equally but i love hanbok!!!

1. เพื่อนเล่น ไม่เล่นเพื่อน (just being friendly) ft. milli: this song was my #1 most played last year by a massive margin. i feel like it's a great example of their current style—third's emotional vocals, a swelling bridge, and a healthy dose of angst. milli can be... grating, but she's toned it down here and i appreciate that.
2. คิด(แต่ไม่)ถึง (same page?): sits at the same table as love scenario.
3. จากกันด้วยดี (ordinary): their first single under gene lab, a little smoother than their earlier releases but still lacking some polish (positive).
4. แค่เธอเข้ามา (worth the wait): this sounds like a three man down song (also positive).
5. เบื่อคนขี้เบื่อ (i'm not boring, you're just bored): the resigned angst of the it's gonna be ok album turned mean.
top 5 animal themed kpop songs:
because i've been listening to uh-heung too much.....
1. naughty boy (green frog) - pentagon: the reason i kneeled down was to get ready for a leap immediately bursts into tears.
2. swan - oh my girl: dear ohmygirl a perfect ep; this is like a companion to perfect day but 100% better.
3. dinosaur - akmu: you wouldn't immediately think akmu + edm would work, but it does, especially when you add lyrics that will give you chills.
4. uh-heung (the tiger is chasing) - dkz: this song feels like being chased by a tiger in a cheesy, kpop circa 2013 way, which is a good thing.
5. butterfly - f(x): i love this eerie, dreamy chorus.
top 5 nakyung looks:
idk why i made her an individual list but here we go!
1. 181109 simply kpop love bomb: two-toned pigtails and this amazing vinyl skirt.
2. 220121 music bank dm: i swear to god this is the most beautiful she's ever looked... i think nakyung look SOOO GOOD with her hair in waves and even though she loses one of the earrings, that moment at the beginning with her hair pulled back and those big earrings framing her face. she is the moment.
3. 180607 mcountdown dkdk: i luv all dkdk styling but catgirl...
4. 200922 the show feel good: ok there isn't even anything special about this outfit but again i love her hair wavy and i think solid colors make her face bones look even better.
5. 210903 music bank talk & talk: when i was compiling my initial list almost all the entries were nakyung in pigtails what's wrong with me... anyway i luv this tiered skirt.
