(i started this post in march and it is now may 11. time is fake!! wait speaking of time being fake i wrote my spotify wrapped post but never actually posted it so uh here)
for some reason this year my seasonal depression did not strike until march (can i blame climate change for this?) but i've been working on self-improvement™ (going to the gym, reading, calling my mom) along with a lot of catsitting and a hair trigger on falling asleep so i somehow still feel like time has passed in a blur... here are some things i was thinking about on the treadmill recently:
i saw onf in toronto!! since i've liked them for years i splurged on vvip and got a fansign and group photo which were both brief but delightful. it was a great show and all of the fuses were sooo nice, altogether a great experience <3 i went to three other kpop concerts last year--pixy, tri·be, and ikon. i even went to kansas city for tri·be because their local date took place while i was flying back from our honeymoon and it was the smallest concert i've ever been to but they put on a great show despite the crowd size and were so lovely in person. ikon was such a fun show that i literally gave myself some kind of tmj related injury from singing along lmaooo. (pixy was also fun but not as memorable as those other two.)
(all of this i wrote in march) recent state of bl (and gl!!!): top completed dramas of the year so far are perfect propose, love for love's sake, and cherry magic. last twilight was so good to me up until the last minute. i mean i was defending day after episode 11 even, but the finale was honestly unforgiveable. cooking crush started so strong for me (a perfect role for off! neo/aungpao! friendship!) but the editing choices for the youtube version got more questionable each episode and i felt like by the end it was just kind of meandering. i still have high hopes for the trainee, though #babii4ever. i'm currently watching unknown (i need them to kiss it's killing me), i'm one episode away from finishing love is better the second time around, and i will start we are and only boo Soon.
as for cherry magic, i enjoyed the jpn version when it aired but had no lingering fondness for it and i am a defensive polca at heart so i was going to defend it with my life regardless, but even without my rose-tinted glasses i thought it was pretty decent. cons: i think i've learned by now that there's always going to be something a little unsatisfactory about a p'x show for me (except for you, theory of love, because there is so much wrong with you that the directing was not the issue...i still love you anyway) and i think the earlier episodes were a lot stronger than the second half. also new is just better when he's being silly (see: the warp effect). pros: tay's lovely vulnerability as karan (tay tawan cries, i cry), the office dynamix, jinta/min infinitely better than the original side couple, this whole scene. not a 10/10 for me but a solid 8/10. i think peaceful property is going to be much more my ideal taynew even if it's purely platonic.
i looooove 23.5 so far. milk as ongsa is such a perfect loser and i'm loving how the ongsasun relationship is developing so far. the actual butterflies in my stomach when sun tucked her head into ongsa's chest with relief when they avoided getting caught by the security guard!! i have had a soft spot for view ever since the shipper but she is killing it as aylin. i wasn't sure what to think of aylin/luna from the trailer but they are turning out to be so cute.
may emily adding: I LOVE ONLY BOO!!! keen as moo is perfect (whenever they play the meow sound effect for him it's like soooo true) and while sea is still pretty stiff it works for kang and they play off each other well. there's nothing better than two mutually smitten losers!!
theoretically i've been trying to spend less money in 2024 but it's been hard because weight fluctuations and GI issues have meant i've had to retire or set aside a lot of clothes i enjoy. as i've been thinking more about my wardrobe, i really enjoyed this video by beepworld. (in general i love liz beepworld's videos! her style is much more colorful and eclectic than i'm drawn to, but i'm always interested in seeing how she puts together outfits.) (liz cites this hannah louise poston video which i would also recommend along with any of HLP's shopping and style videos; her advice is thoughtful and informative!!)
these videos coincided with me using pinterest more in the last six month so i felt like i had enough material to actually put together a moodboard:

you might be able to read that the keywords i chose to represent my ideal style were relaxed, warm/neutral, and a touch of playfulness. i think of relaxed in terms of both silhouette and in level of formality. i used to be drawn to outfits more like this and beyond the fact that trends/styles have just changed, outfits like fitted skirts and tights are no longer practical for where i work (or comfortable, given how prone i am to bloating with my various health issues >_<) looser, more casual outfits are much more relevant to my day-to-day life. i am drawn to colors like black, navy blue, and olive green. and in terms of "a touch of playfulness", i'm not into full whimsy but i love fun elements like my lucy and yak jacket or colorful sneakers in otherwise neutral or simple outfits. in my dream wardrobe i would own some pieces from brands like damson madder or ilk+ernie to balance out my basics.
since working on actually cultivating a pinterest board and thinking about my wardrobe this way, i feel like i've tried some outfit combinations that wouldn't have occurred to me otherwise and i've been encouraged to think about potential purchases more in terms of how they fit into my existing wardrobe and how they fit in with my style goals.
- i've completed 11 books this year and dnf 1, which means i'm actually ahead of my goal of 28 books this year. i joined a book club to motivate me and encourage some social interaction but so far the only thing we've read that i enjoyed was tomorrow x3. honestly i haven't read a lot of standout books over the past year since i've ended up in a cycle where i read what's available on libby and then i keep delaying the books i actually want to read when my holds are ready bc i have to finish what i've already started. this isn't necessarily a problem for me because i do enjoy the meditative aspect of reading and ignoring my phone for any extended period of time but at the same time can a girl get a book with a rating higher than 3 stars? maybe i just don't know what i like...
here is just a quick list of things i've enjoyed or am enjoying:
- this review of a little life which i have not read but would never read because i am not into hurt/comfort fanfiction.
- real horror uploaded yesterday and i cleared my schedule. her quality is excellent and i love a soothing british narrator.
- similarly whenever weatherbox uploads a new video i'm always like oh baby i know what we're falling asleep to tonight [positive]
- one lesser known interest of mine is geography so i've enjoyed adding geogrid and travle to my daily game rotation.
- some recent asmr faves: inkonthewillow, bungalow asmr, aaroasmr, and whispering star asmr
- and on a final random note i got this sticker from artist brittany v wilder and i've tucked it into the mirror that sits on my desk and i like seeing it out of the corner of my eye. this isn't exactly what brittany's artist statement conveyed but the words reminded me of this ralph waldo emerson quote that's stuck with me for a decade: finish each day and be done with it. a reminder that each day is different and you don't have to carry the same negative feelings from one day to the next.
